W Gallery and Studios was awarded Best
Gallery by the KVIE Public Television 2007
Art Auction. After three years establishing
their presence in the growing Sacramento art
scene, W Gallery's unique approach was
recognized in the five pieces submitted for
review by KVIE's panel of judges. "Art is
meant to be appreciated with other art,"
states Lisa Watts, co-owner and artist at W
Gallery. "The five abstract pieces we
submitted included acrylic on canvas,
sculpture, photography and blown glass.
Despite the different mediums, they all
evoke a warmth that invites interaction from
the viewer. Separately and together, they
are provocative and engaging."
The KVIE judges seemed to agree, awarding
the overall gallery honor as well as
individual accolades.
Lora Watts' submission
received second place for oils and acrylics.
Rick and Janet Nicholson also received
second place for in the arts and crafts
category. The presentation also included
striking photography by
Geanina Watts and a
powerful sculpture by
Thien Dao,
and was finished off by a dramatically
simple geometric painting by
Lisa Watts.
Another W
Gallery artist, Gayle Rappaport-Weiland, was
selected individually as a 2007 Special
Collections Artist.
While the winning pieces will be sold
during KVIE's annual Art Auction on
September 14-16, 2007, W Gallery will
continue to show related work at its midtown
Sacramento location. "We believe in
consistently presenting approachable
abstracts," states Watts. For W Gallery, art
isn't about a single artist, or a single
piece. They present multiple artists and
media in a 360 degree experience within the
gallery. Locally and nationally recognized
artists, including David Foster, Red Wolf,
Emily Kalina, Thien Dao, and Rick and Janet
Nicholson will be appearing at the gallery
throughout the year.
