A NOTE FROM RED WOLF
I work on large sandwiched aluminum panels--
carving into the surface of the aluminum I
create a highly reflective surface to paint
on. For many years now, I have been
experimenting with materials. I utilize
several combinations of thin films,
particles, and coatings to create structural
colors at various wavelengths. I have
developed ways to collage these films and
materials into my paintings.
I have enough artistic control of this
technology that I can paint abstractly or
figuratively as I wish and use structural
color as an integral part of generating the
colors of the image. Structural color is a
phenomena found in numerous organic
structures in nature from opal and humming
bird feathers to soap bubbles.
Much of my artwork currently is focused on
manipulation of the aluminum substrate. A
recurrent theme though most of my artwork is
that it represents an exploration into the
creation of color through the manipulation
of light.
