David Foster has followed his
passion for art since early childhood and has
made sculpture his primary art form for more
than thirty years. Until 2001, his media of
choice were clay and bronze. Then, while on
sabbatical in Pietrasanta, Italy, famous for the
Carrara marble – used by Michelangelo and other
masters – David discovered the excitement of
carving marble. He has been returning to Pietrasanta to carve ever since. This has
allowed him to develop his passion for sculpting
marble, and to become intimately involved in the
international community of sculptors with whom
he works and exhibits. When not in Italy, David
carves at his Lake Tahoe studio.
The subjects of his sculpture
reference the human figure combined with a
strong preference for design elements of line,
shape, interval, space and the resulting
dialogue of the play of light and shadow on the
surface of the marble.
David teaches in Lake Tahoe and in France,
Italy and Greece. His work has been included in
group exhibitions in Sacramento’s Crocker
Museum, the Museum of Art, Reno, Nevada, college
and university galleries, galleries and studios
of Pietrasanta, Italy, and in private
collections. |
