As a painter, Albert Chi Hwang describes his
work as a result of an inner impulse toward
self-expression. He chose to be a painter mainly
because he enjoys making images and because he
had an early interest in drawing and the visual
arts.
Though he sometimes chooses to work within the
context of a theme, he approaches each piece
without any preconceived notions of how it may
ultimately appear. Each application of paint is
made as a result of an intuited response to the
paint rather than by any conceptual theorizing
toward the piece. He likens each picture to an
independent organism in which he merely assists
in its growth.
